Officer Depew has been involved in multiple incidents of misconduct. On August 6, 2020, he pulled over a Black man without cause and slammed him to the ground, causing injuries. On October 12, 2020, he beat a Black man in the face with a flashlight, resulting in facial fractures. On February 5, 2021, he choked a Black teenager in a parking lot and directed a racial slur toward him. Depew was arrested in May 2021 and charged with simple battery and malfeasance in office. The town of Jackson settled two lawsuits related to his actions, totaling $75,000.
