In June 2009, Officer Trenton Hintze arrested an individual named Baer on a failure-to-appear warrant. Baer later filed a lawsuit alleging that during his detention, he was required to remove his shirt, exposing his religious undergarment, was denied food to manage his low blood-sugar levels, and was told to ‘sit down and shut up’ by officers. The lawsuit claimed violations of Baer’s constitutional rights during the arrest and detention process.
