On February 24, 2020, Officer Ward responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance at the Rana residence. During the incident, he allegedly used profanity and aggressive behavior towards Ms. Jafary, a resident who questioned his conduct. Officer Ward reportedly placed his hand on his holstered gun and threatened Ms. Jafary with arrest for obstruction if she did not leave the room. Later that day, he filed a criminal complaint against Ms. Jafary for misdemeanor obstruction, allegedly based on false statements to secure an arrest warrant. Ms. Jafary filed a lawsuit against Officer Ward and the City of Beckley, claiming violations of her First and Fourth Amendment rights. The court denied Officer Ward’s motion to dismiss, allowing the case to proceed. ([casetext.com](https://casetext.com/case/jafary-v-city-of-beckley-1?utm_source=openai))
