In September 2002, Officer Clayton was involved in an on-duty altercation with a superior officer, resulting in an eight-month suspension pending internal and criminal investigations. The internal investigation concluded with recommendations for disciplinary charges, and Clayton was arrested on assault and false statement charges. He was granted accelerated rehabilitation for the assault charge, which was dismissed after a probation period. Clayton retired in May 2003 amid these proceedings.
