In August 2022, Officer Wooten was implicated in a lawsuit alleging excessive force and failure to intervene during a traffic stop. The plaintiff claims that Wooten assisted in the arrest and did not intervene while other officers physically assaulted him. Additionally, Wooten allegedly failed to activate his body-worn camera during the incident. The plaintiff was charged with Fleeing/Eluding Arrest and Resisting a Public Officer; these charges were later dismissed. The lawsuit alleges violations of the Fourth Amendment, including unlawful stop, excessive force, unlawful arrest, and malicious prosecution.

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
