Former Officer Paul Helring, who served as the president of the city’s police union, was sentenced in June 2024 to six months imprisonment and two years supervised release for overtime fraud. Between March 2021 and May 2022, Helring falsely reported working an additional 526 hours patrolling lower-income housing complexes, resulting in nearly $18,000 in unearned pay. He was ordered to pay restitution and a $5,000 fine.
