In 2018, Lieutenant Peter Massaro was investigated for making unprofessional and gender-based derogatory remarks about a fellow commander. The investigation concluded that Massaro’s comments violated the department’s Human Relations Regulation. As a result, he was transferred from his position at the Police Academy to the night shift in the Patrol Bureau. Massaro filed a lawsuit alleging retaliation, but the court granted summary judgment in favor of Fairfax County.
