Sergeant Phyllis Washington was implicated in a 2020 lawsuit filed by clerks Danielle Dillard and Kim Lee, who accused the department of racial harassment and retaliation. Washington allegedly referred to Dillard as a ‘monkey,’ contributing to a hostile work environment. The jury awarded the plaintiffs over $1 million in damages in November 2023.
