KeymasterFormer Deputy Quinten Stump was involved in multiple incidents of misconduct. On April 9, 2020, he and Undersheriff Tracy Weisenhorn shot unarmed Zach Gifford three times in the back during a traffic stop, resulting in Gifford’s death. Prior to this, in December 2019, Stump used deadly force in two separate car chases under questionable circumstances. He was suspended for insubordination on April 8, 2020, and fired in November 2020 for drunkenly shooting at a traffic sign with his county-issued gun. Stump faced criminal charges for attempted second-degree murder and assault related to Gifford’s death, with a jury acquitting him on one count and deadlocking on the others in August 2022. The county settled with Gifford’s family for $9.5 million in April 2022.
