In April 2022, while serving as a detention center officer, Sammons engaged in two physical altercations with an inmate. During the second incident, he used an electrified G.L.O.V.E. deterrent device to shock the inmate multiple times. Both incidents were recorded on body-worn cameras. Sammons was arrested in September 2022 and charged with third-degree assault and battery and misconduct in office.
