In May 2019, Assistant Police Chief Richard Slavin made homophobic remarks during a meeting, including suggesting a French police supervisor was ‘probably gay’ and asking a lieutenant, ‘Are you gay?’ An internal investigation found the comments unprofessional but without discriminatory intent. Slavin issued an apology and received verbal counseling as discipline.
