In 2013, Correctional Officer Richard Sotelo was involved in multiple incidents of misconduct. In July 2013, he was placed on administrative leave due to a domestic violence issue involving his wife. Upon returning to work, Sotelo engaged in inappropriate behavior towards a fellow correctional officer, including groping and sexual harassment. These incidents led to criminal charges, and in July 2014, Sotelo pleaded no contest to felony battery on a custodial officer and felony stalking. He was sentenced to three years of formal probation and ordered to pay restitution. Sotelo’s employment with the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office ended in January 2014.
