In May 2020, Officer Robert Johnston fired rubber bullets at protester Eleaqia McCrae during a demonstration, causing her permanent vision loss. A jury awarded McCrae $1 million in damages for excessive force. The verdict was initially overturned but later reinstated by a federal appeals court in September 2024.
