In November 1974, Officer Robert L. Shoaf was dismissed from the Lafayette Police Department for conduct unbecoming an officer following an altercation with his ex-wife. The dismissal was upheld by the Lafayette Police Civil Service Commission and later affirmed by the Indiana Court of Appeals in 1981.
