In March 2023, Officer Robert Romey participated in a high-speed pursuit of a stolen vehicle that resulted in the deaths of two innocent bystanders, Jake Monteer and Jessica Fields. The pursuit reached speeds up to 93 mph and ended when the suspect’s vehicle collided with the victims. A lawsuit filed by Monteer’s family alleges negligence and improper training involving Romey.
