    In 2016, Officer Roberto Felix Jr. fatally shot Ashtian Barnes during a traffic stop. Barnes’ mother filed a civil rights lawsuit alleging excessive force, which was dismissed by a lower court. In January 2025, the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear the case, focusing on the ‘moment of threat’ doctrine that evaluates police actions based on immediate threats faced by officers.
