Terminated from Denver PD in July 2024 (while still a probationary recruit) after an internal investigation found he and two classmates from the academy exchanged ‘disturbing’ group chat messages about going to immigrant shelters for ‘target practice’. DPD officials called the jokes about shooting migrants ‘abhorrent’ and immediately fired Basurto and the others involved, reporting them to the state POST board for decertification.
