In 2014, Deputy Ryan Boyer was accused of excessive force against Robert Preston, who was in custody at an Everett park-and-ride. Boyer allegedly used a stun gun and physical force, resulting in Preston losing consciousness and sustaining serious injuries, including a collapsed lung and broken ribs. Preston filed a lawsuit in 2016, and in 2021, Snohomish County settled the case for $150,000. Boyer was later promoted to sergeant.
