On December 17, 2022, Deputy Sam McDonald confronted Lake City activist Sylvester Warren at a basketball game. When Warren refused to leave, McDonald used force to remove him, including kneeling on Warren’s neck. The incident was caught on camera, leading Warren to file an excessive force lawsuit against the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. Warren reported head and neck injuries and is seeking medical attention. As of December 30, 2022, Deputy McDonald was also reported injured and not back at the office.
