In November 2023, Sheriff Finkbeiner was arrested for obstruction of justice after attempting to mislead federal investigators regarding his relationship with a target of an FBI drug investigation. He admitted to using methamphetamine and crack cocaine with the target and sought to halt the FBI’s probe. In February 2025, he pleaded guilty to concealing a material fact from a governmental agency and agreed to resign from office. He faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
