In September 2022, while off duty, Sergeant Johnson became intoxicated at a Ross High School football game, assaulted a woman in the parking lot, and subsequently caused a head-on collision resulting in injuries. He damaged a sheriff’s cruiser during his arrest. Johnson was charged with aggravated vehicular assault, OVI, and assault, leading to his termination from the department and a sentence of five years of community control with mandatory alcohol treatment.
