In 2019, Sergeant Broems was arrested for his role in an extra-duty theft scheme, where he and three other officers were accused of bilking the Police Department’s extra-duty program of over $154,000. Broems allegedly collected $8,160 in false cancellation fees. He resigned in May 2019 and was granted a pretrial probation program in 2025, leading to the dismissal of charges upon completion.
