In July 2011, Sergeant Gary Browndorf led a team to execute an arrest warrant at the residence of Philip Romanek. During the arrest, Browndorf struck Romanek and falsely claimed that Romanek had kicked him. Browndorf also arrested Romanek’s girlfriend, Samantha Doneker, on false charges. Both individuals were jailed, and Doneker suffered a miscarriage due to the emotional trauma. A grand jury investigation led to the dismissal of charges against Romanek and Doneker. Browndorf was subsequently charged and convicted of perjury and simple assault, serving three months of a six to 12-month sentence.
