Sergeant Daniels was arrested in October 2013 on charges of sexual assault while on duty, involving two separate incidents where he allegedly assaulted women during patrols. Although he was acquitted of criminal charges in 2016, an internal investigation revealed that Daniels had exchanged approximately 700 inappropriate text messages with colleagues, containing racist, sexist, and homophobic language. Despite these findings, an arbitrator ruled in 2020 that the internal investigation was incomplete and unfair, leading to Daniels’ reinstatement with back pay. He currently holds a sergeant position on paper but is not serving as an active sworn peace officer.
