In 2009, Sergeant King was involved in an incident where an inmate, Shamel Howell, refused to comply with jail policies regarding clothing. After multiple refusals and verbal threats from Howell, Sergeant King, along with Sergeant Reynolds, deployed tasers simultaneously to subdue him. The use of force was challenged in court, but the court found that the actions were a good faith effort to restore order and not malicious or sadistic.
