In May 2022, Sergeant Arriola was involved in an incident where a detainee was allegedly subjected to excessive force and inhumane conditions. The detainee was restrained in handcuffs and leg shackles for approximately 20 hours without relief, denied access to basic necessities, and transported in restrictive restraints causing severe pain. The detainee filed a lawsuit alleging violations of constitutional rights due to excessive force and cruel treatment. The case is documented in Williams v. Yuma County, CV 22-01163-PHX-MTL.
