On September 6, 2019, Sergeant Townsend released an inmate, who had suffered a broken jaw from an assault by another inmate, earlier than scheduled without providing adequate medical care. The inmate was homeless and had no reliable means of transportation to a medical facility. This action led to a lawsuit alleging violation of the inmate’s Eighth and Fourteenth Amendment rights due to deliberate indifference to serious medical needs.
