In March 2020, the Newport Police Union expressed no confidence in Chief Seth DiSanto, citing concerns about his leadership, integrity, and treatment of officers. The union’s letter highlighted issues such as bullying and questioned his ability to handle dangerous situations. Following this, DiSanto was placed on paid administrative leave and subsequently resigned in April 2020, receiving a $30,000 severance package from the city.
