In March 2023, Sgt. Witt was captured on body camera footage repeatedly kicking a DUI suspect, Louis Jackson, in the head during an arrest. This excessive use of force led to criminal charges, including assault by a public officer and assault likely to cause great bodily injury. Witt resigned in June 2023 amid the internal investigation. Notably, Witt had a prior history of misconduct, including a 2018 bar brawl that resulted in a misdemeanor conviction and demotion.
