In 2015, Sgt. John Gately, then president of the Spokane Police Guild, informed Officer Gordon Ennis that police were investigating him for allegedly raping a fellow officer. Gately’s actions were deemed inappropriate, leading to a trial on charges of obstructing a police officer, which resulted in a hung jury. An internal investigation led to a four-week unpaid leave, later reduced to one week after arbitration.
