On July 11, 2020, Sgt. Johnnie Drewery assaulted an inmate, D.H., at the Grady County Jail. After D.H. spat on him, Drewery entered the cell and struck D.H. multiple times with his fists and knee, resulting in a fractured rib. Drewery pleaded guilty to using unreasonable force, violating the inmate’s constitutional rights. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.
