On July 15, 2022, Sgt. Kelly Carrington was involved in a fatal accident on Highway 212 while responding to a report of a motorcycle wreck. During his response, he struck two individuals, Darren Shull and Jesse Beck, who were later pronounced dead. The incident was captured on two video recording devices, and investigations by the Montana Highway Patrol and the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation are ongoing. Sgt. Carrington has been placed on paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
