Sgt. Richard Wolfington, a Native American officer with the department since 1993, alleged that he was forced to retire early in 2013 due to a hostile work environment and retaliation. He claimed that he was repeatedly skipped over for promotions in favor of white officers and that Capt. David Fudge retaliated against him when he reported Fudge’s violations of department policies. Wolfington filed a lawsuit against the city, alleging civil rights violations and retaliation. The city investigated the allegations and determined they were without merit, planning to vigorously defend against the claims.
