CSPD Officer Shane Reed pleaded guilty in 2022 to a charge of misdemeanor child abuse after assaulting and threatening a teenage boy who was the victim in a sexual assault case involving Reed’s girlfriend. In March 2022, while off duty, Reed confronted the 15-year-old boy – who had been sexually involved with Reed’s then-girlfriend – and shoved him against a fence, telling the teen he would kill him and nobody would find his body. Reed initially faced more serious charges, including kidnapping, but took a plea deal; he was sentenced to two years of probation and required to attend anger-management classes, avoiding jail time for the incident.

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
