In December 2016, Officer Shane Rivera, along with Officer Michael Amiott, confronted Erimius Spencer in his apartment building. The officers accused Spencer of having warrants and being armed. After finding a small amount of marijuana, they allegedly assaulted him, including kicking him in the face and using stun guns. Spencer suffered a broken facial bone. He filed a lawsuit against the city and the officers, which was settled for $40,000.
