In 2012, Detention Officer Shannon Correll was accused of sexually assaulting female detainees at the Mohave County Vanderslice Jail Substation. Two women filed a federal lawsuit alleging that Correll strip-searched and sexually assaulted them in a storage shed at the substation. Correll pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual conduct with both women and was sentenced to prison. The lawsuit also named Mohave County, Sheriff Tom Sheahan, and jail commander Bruce Brown as defendants, alleging failure to supervise Correll and maintain appropriate facilities for female detainees.
