    In August 2023, Sheriff Shannon Smith resigned amid an investigation into misappropriated funds from the Seminole County Sheriff Deputy Association Fund. A deferred prosecution agreement required him to resign, pay $2,566 in restitution, and refrain from seeking law enforcement employment for two years. The agreement pertained specifically to the misappropriation of funds from the association fund.
