In July 2010, former deputy Shawn Theo Thomsen pleaded no contest to a felony charge of committing lewd acts with a child under 16, which occurred while he was an officer in 2008. He received a five-year suspended sentence and is required to register as a sex offender for life. Despite the conviction, Thomsen retained his Oklahoma peace officer certification for several years due to communication lapses between prosecutors and the certifying council.
