In June 2003, Officer Dockery was observed walking his beat accompanied by a female while on duty, despite prior directives against such conduct. He was suspended with pay pending a hearing and subsequently terminated for violating department policies. Dockery appealed, and the case underwent multiple legal proceedings. In 2020, the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals reversed a previous judgment and remanded the case for further proceedings, citing procedural errors in the handling of Dockery’s termination.
