In March 2020, Sheriff Joseph Konrath ordered a patrol sergeant to visit the home of 16-year-old Amyiah Cohoon and demand she delete an Instagram post about her COVID-19 experience. The sergeant threatened the family with arrest for disorderly conduct if the post was not removed. This action led to a federal lawsuit alleging violation of First and Fourteenth Amendment rights. In September 2021, U.S. District Court Judge Brett Ludwig ruled that the sheriff’s actions violated Cohoon’s First Amendment rights.
