In September 2021, Sheriff Faris, along with unidentified officers, forcibly entered the residence of Dottie J. New and Ralph New without a search warrant or arrest warrant for anyone residing in the home. The officers allegedly used excessive force, including pointing weapons and making threats, and caused property damage. The News filed a lawsuit alleging violations of their Fourth Amendment rights. As of September 2024, the case was ongoing, with Sheriff Faris asserting qualified immunity.
