In June 2016, Sheriff Stephen R. Haskell was removed from office after a jury unanimously found that he committed misconduct or malfeasance. The misconduct involved billing the county for uniforms purchased before he took office in January 2015 and misrepresenting the timing of these purchases to the county commission. A separate criminal case regarding these uniform purchases was pending at that time.
