Former Deputy Steven Abreu was accused of raping women while on duty over a two-month period in 2022. He faced 43 charges, including 14 counts of rape and 13 counts of misconduct in office. Abreu was fired after an investigation. During his trial, he admitted to lying during the initial investigation to save his job and life. Some charges were dropped due to insufficient evidence, but he still faced 36 charges. The jury was expected to deliberate on his credibility and the remaining charges.
