Officer Steven Figueroa was terminated from the Bridgeport Police Department in August 2019 following multiple arrests, including charges of sexual assault, assault, unlawful restraint, and threatening. In June 2019, he was arrested in Shelton for third-degree assault, unlawful restraint, threatening, and risk of injury to a child. The following month, he faced first-degree sexual assault charges. Figueroa filed a federal discrimination lawsuit against the city, alleging that his termination was due to his Hispanic heritage. In February 2025, the City Council voted to settle the lawsuit by paying Figueroa $60,000.
