In June 2022, Tequella Douglas, the former chief of the department’s civil division, was arrested for allegedly stealing $35,000 from the sheriff’s office to fund her gambling addiction. Investigations revealed that between April and May 2022, Douglas destroyed deposit checks and misappropriated approximately $10,000 in cash. She admitted to using the funds for video poker. Douglas was charged with felony theft and malfeasance and was terminated from her position on June 16, 2022.
