In July 2024, former deputy Thomas Campbell was arrested and charged with embezzlement after missing firearms from the Nowata County Sheriff’s Office were found on his property. The firearms had been missing since 2018, and Campbell had previously denied housing them. He was fired in April 2017 and later served as a reserve deputy until his commission was revoked in June 2024 due to the investigation.
