In June 2008, while serving as a sergeant with the Illinois State Police, Timothy Tyler was involved in an off-duty domestic incident with an ex-girlfriend, a Chicago Police Department officer. The altercation included both parties drawing their firearms and Tyler allegedly grabbing the woman’s arm. Witnesses reported that Tyler appeared slightly intoxicated. He was suspended for seven days for unfavorable conduct and improper drinking while off-duty.
