In August 2016, then-Sheriff Tom Hanna transported Peatinna Biggs, a developmentally disabled inmate, to his home instead of the Logan County Jail. He offered her $60 for sex, and upon her refusal, he sexually assaulted her. Hanna threatened Biggs with life imprisonment if she disclosed the assault. In October 2022, a federal jury awarded Biggs $8.25 million in damages. Hanna was convicted of official misconduct in May 2018 and sentenced to seven months in prison. He was removed from office in a recall election in 2017.
