Sergeant Tony Washington was present during the September 2020 incident where excessive force was used on a restrained inmate. As the supervising officer, he failed to intervene, resulting in his termination on October 16, 2020. In February 2022, the Alabama Peace Officers’ Standards and Training Commission revoked his certification as a law enforcement officer.
