    In August 2020, Officer Travis Bates was involved in the arrest of Michael Gillis, director of Hunger First. Gillis filed a $1 million lawsuit alleging that Bates and other officers used excessive force during the arrest, including slamming him to the pavement and placing a knee on his neck. The incident led to injuries that required medical treatment.
